“We are ruled by the least among us.” As a society, we encourage a collective and selective amnesia that often removes the tools of history that would—if they were allowed—help us confront the future. Instead our government, our media, our ruling institutions encourage us to take the easy route in our heads and focus on who to blame. The canons of history and culture are ultimately determined by the ruling class, the wealthy power brokers of influence, the familiar and unimaginative top of the money chain. The same people who hold that power now are the same ones who held it before, there is no point in the history of the American continent or in that of the whole Western world at which it has not been so. But for a few brief sparks that were quickly and efficiently snuffed out, the poor have always served the rich, and they have died for them. On the whole, we as a people are too eager to forget the past, and in so doing we forfeit the ability to learn from it. “History is written by the victors.”
lyrics
The rulers of today are the same as the past
The fore fathers made the constitution
That keeps everybody in their class
Just widening the gap
You say: “America used to be great“
But it was always about control
Built on the poor’s death and bone
The most perfect system to be in control
The few rich have the control
The illusion of freedom, that’s control
Manufactured history, lies for control
History written by the upper class
Don’t believe those robbers
The fore fathers
For the apocalypse
This sick society’s full of shit
No humanity!
How quick are we to forget
And accept the bullshit history
Written and spun by the rich
Distorted lies for control
Ignorance is bliss
Ignorance harbors evil
Thanks fore fathers for the apocalypse
